Who knew there was such a thing. A flower that takes a decade to grow and less than 48 hours to die. And guess what it’s known for. It’s pungent smell! I got a chance to check it out at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx on Friday the day after it first bloomed. After 80 years, this flower has returned to the NYBG.
It took an hour to get in and I’ve concluded the smell was already lingering outside while we waited so that by the time we reached the flower room, it wasn’t as smelly. I only realized this after I walked through the other areas and then came back around to exit from the Corpse Flower room.
